Of X-Men, off hand, I'm sure I've only drawn Kurt (Nightcrawler) and of Evolution-style. Though, he was not my original favourite.
In the 90s cartoon, I loved Rogue and Gambit. They were my top favs (and others fluctuated around that). I wanted them together - and I really at this point don't remember why at that age I even thought that. Maybe even then it was a "favourite x favourite" thing that I still do to this day -- I luck out when the characters are actually compatible and/or work somehow.
Anywho. Playing X-Men Legends with my siblings, I insisted on playing a level until Gambit was a part of our team. Unfortunately, that didn't happen the way I'd hoped. Well, once he was on our team I got the urge to sketch him...
I used no references as I drew him and just went from memory. The clothes were intentionally altered. I know in various versions the clothes vary - so I did my own version.
Colouring it, I also did the same -- I tried to keep some things close to original (a base brownish tint for his coat, for example).
Um... so yeah, I just tried to do a simple sketch that used no references - period. And that's what I came up with.
I'd really like to fix this up and colour it in PSP and stuff, too. This might be one of the first I do after PC work and such.
-- This piece, though digi-cam'd and no where near perfect, is going in my main gallery for now. Once I clean it up and fix it, I'll move this to scraps.
